Reflections: The Natural Hair Industry Convention

I had previously planned to be a little more timely with this post. However, I needed some time to digest the amount of amazingness that I experienced at the Natural Hair Industry Convention. And I needed even more time to start putting a lot of the information into practice. I got there early and before breakfast had ended my mind was blown and I had already received valuable advice and met some amazing people.  It was a surreal moment to be sitting among such amazing women.  There is no more life altering feeling than being in a space surrounded by generations of women who are dynamic, trail-blazing, tenacious, opinionated, and...

Natural Hair Industry Convention: I’ll be THERE!

Hey yall!!  Yea I’ve been missing but …VLOGTOBER!! Hope yall have been enjoying and hope you check out today’s video which is all about the growth of the natural hair community and my attendance at the 2015 Natural Hair Industry Convention coming up on Sunday! In case you haven’t seen it…you can watch it below: I’m excited to go to this year’s event.  It was only recently that I decided that I wanted to be more involved as a natural hair vlogger and blogger.  This event is the perfect event to jump start my foray into the seriously developing the natural hair aspect of Whit Happens6. This convention is meant...

TLN: Natural Hair Product Review: Dr. Coily and Honey’s Handmade

So first and most importantly…I bought these products with my own hard earned coinT so you know this review is going to be 100% real.  Yall know I’m not one to like to part from a penny, so if it wasn’t worth my money…I’m going to tell you. That being said…both of these companies can have several of my coins!!!! I gave up the ghost on doing my own hair after about a year because my hair was taken over by an evil tangled cobweb spirit that I didn’t know how to rebuke.   So I did a combination of protective styles and let someone else worry about doing my...

TLN: North West Inspires Little Natural/Curly Girls?

OK…I LIED….ALLLL SHADE!  I’m over VOGUE and everything they stand for.  I’m over folks giving cornrows, baby hairs, and bantu knots away and labeling the average natural haired child as unkept and nappy headed. Oh…and i’m NOT HERE for this bullshit: http://www.vogue.com/13271331/north-west-curly-hair-inspiration/ Let’s not get it twisted.  North West is cute and all that and her curls are fabulous…BUT her curls don’t look like your typical curly girls especially a little black curly girl. Like forreal though? North wears her hair in cute styles but she also has been known to wear it free and curly. All of this is harolded as THE CUTEST THING EVER…HOW ADORBS RIGHT.  AND IT IS…...

TLN – Braids are my Frenemy

I’ve been intending to blog all week about something that wasn’t this.  Along with getting distracted by all the foolery that is happening in the world (McKinney and Rachel), life, and regular ish…I’ve been distracted by taking out my braids. If you know me, you know the idea of braids is amazing to me.  I’m lazy when it comes to life my hair so not having to do anything but get up and lay my edges in the morning is very very appealing.  As soon as i got the braids, I regretted them for 72 hours because my head felt like it was being stabbed by a litany of tiny stabbing...

Pinterest: Natural Hairstyles #TLN – Blog Challenge Day 23

We’ve established that I’m super lazy when it comes to doing my hair.  But I still have fantasies of doing fabulous things to my hair.  I mean, natural hair is super versatile right.  You can do a ton of styles to it.  You can smack it, flip it, rub it down, and awlla dat! So of course, I have a pinterest board dedicated to fabulous hair.  “Natural Hair/Hey Hair”    There are a ton of styles on there I want to try.  Here are a few:   This is one I’m going to get done by someone: I was supposed to get it done last month but that didn’t work...

Bantu Flat Out #TLN – Blog Challenge Day 18

As a part of my “get your life” challenge…i just made that up…where I get my life in order, I’m supposed to be doing my hair more. As I’ve stated before, I’m very hair lazy.  The less I have to do the better.  There is one style that I have tried in the past before I really got a grip on my hair and it was FAIL CITY!  It’s not my hair that doesn’t like the style either.  It’s my skill set.  It’s BANTU KNOTS!  My sister did them on me a couple years ago and the results were amazing. SEE:  Mind you this was TWO weeks after I took...

The Lazy Natural – Blog Challenge Day 6

Just in case no one noticed from the rest of my life…I’m lazy.  Just kidding…not really lazy in general.  I just like to get the most for the least.  That’s whether it’s saving money, time, or effort. This does not change when it comes to my hair.  As a matter of fact, it’s exemplified.  It’s obvious that I’m a natural chick but even when I was a permed chick, I didn’t do much to my hair.  I loved me a good ol’ ponytail.  I didn’t even really know how to flat iron my own hair.  I mean i KNEW HOW but who wanted to do that.  I’d regularly solicit someone...
