What are 6 words that you believe describe you best?
What are you the Beyonce of?
I’d like to think I’m the Beyonce of the courtroom, lol! I love being an attorney and going to trial, and I try to prepare each of my cases with the potential jurors in mind. I’m always challenging myself to try to make my main points simple, yet engaging and compelling. I always want to captivate my audience and present all the work I’ve done in a manner that makes it look effortless.
What advice would you give to your 15 year old self?
Whew!! My 15 year-old self needed a whole “Fix My Life” style intervention, but the top three pieces of advice would be:
- Believe that you are who God says you are: intentionally and deliberately created; fearfully and wonderfully made; forgiven; and most importantly, unconditionally loved.
- Save yourself for your husband. Yes! Keep your goodies locked until you get married. Don’t start your relational history confusing love and sex and thinking that you can exchange one for the other because when you finally find the right man, you’re going to have to spend so much time disabusing yourself of all those twisted perversions of love and relationship that you’ve held on to for so long. Trust the Lord and do it His way. You’ll save yourself so much heartbreak, and it’ll be so much fun once you finally get it on!!
- “This is the day that the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it!” (Psalm 118:24) Enjoy this day. Don’t spend it waiting to be the next age, or a smaller weight, or part of the more popular clique, or a better this or prettier that. Rejoice today. Love today. If you can’t be with the ones you love, love the ones you’re with. (Yes, I just quoted the Bible and the Isley Brothers in the same paragraph!) Cherish the people that are in your corner today. Don’t waste time being sad over what you aren’t; celebrate who you are. Be grateful for who you have. Enjoy them because life is truly short.
If you had to be cast on a reality tv show, which show would it be and why?
Oooh, so hard! But I would say Judge Judy!! I love her and want to be her. Not only does she keep it all the way real, but she works like 2 weeks a year and makes $25 million. Hello, life goals!!
What’s your self-care regime?
Well, I have three kids, so yea…but, water, water, water!! I drink lots of water – it covers a multitude of bad eating habits, lack of sleep, and failure to make it to the gym regularly. I also gravitate towards things that keep my life simple. I love fabulous wigs that I can throw on in a pinch; I tend to gravitate towards nude nail colors which last longer and don’t look as bad when I haven’t made it in to get a manicure in three weeks. And finally, quiet time. I know that that is something that may not be a standard “self-care regime” answer, but it is at the core of how I take care of myself. I need time each day (and preferably early in the morning) to pray, collect my thoughts, make my priorities, and also to remind myself to keep ME on my own list.
What makes you FEARCE?
I’m FEARCE because I’m a daughter of the Most High God! Knowing that the Lord really loves me frees me to love myself and others well. It gives me the courage to embrace every part of me – the flaws, the strengths, the love of trap music, bundles of Brazilian Remy, and fried food, and even my fears and anxieties.
